Fatal 18-Wheeler Crash Near U.S. 75 and I-635 in Dallas

Aldous Law

A serious multi-vehicle crash involving an 18-wheeler occurred Monday afternoon near U.S. Highway 75 and Interstate 635 in Dallas, close to the High Five Interchange.

Dallas police responded to the crash shortly before 12:30 p.m. on October 5. According to initial reports, one driver died at the scene, while three people were transported to area hospitals. At least one person was reported to be in critical condition.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities had not publicly announced what caused the collision in initial reports. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this crash and with the family grieving an unimaginable loss.

What We Know About the 18-Wheeler Crash at U.S. 75 and I-635

The collision occurred on North Central Expressway near I-635, one of the busiest highway interchanges in North Dallas. Initial reports described a multi-vehicle collision involving an 18-wheeler.

For those injured and the families affected, the investigation may eventually provide answers to important questions: How did the collision begin? What caused multiple vehicles to become involved? Could the crash have been prevented?

Those questions can also become important when determining whether someone may be legally responsible for the injuries or loss of life resulting from a serious commercial truck accident.

What Happens After a Serious 18-Wheeler Accident in Dallas?

A major truck collision can lead to several investigations. Law enforcement may investigate the cause of the crash, while trucking companies and their insurers may begin conducting their own investigations soon after the collision.

Commercial truck accidents can also involve evidence that may not exist in an ordinary passenger vehicle crash. Depending on the circumstances, relevant evidence can include:

  • Electronic logging device and driver records
  • Vehicle and engine data
  • Truck maintenance and inspection records
  • Dashcam or surveillance footage
  • GPS and dispatch information
  • Witness statements and photographs
  • Cargo and loading records

For someone seriously injured in an 18-wheeler or commercial truck accident, identifying and preserving this evidence can be critical to understanding what happened and why.

Why Early Investigation Can Matter

Trucking companies and their insurers may begin gathering evidence quickly after a serious collision. Their representatives may inspect the truck, photograph the scene, obtain statements, and review company records.

People and families affected by catastrophic crashes deserve an investigation focused on uncovering the complete story. At Aldous Law, our trial lawyers investigate serious trucking cases with the understanding that important evidence may need to be identified and preserved early.

Who Can Be Responsible for an 18-Wheeler Accident in Texas?

The involvement of an 18-wheeler does not automatically mean that a truck driver or trucking company caused a crash. Responsibility must be determined from the evidence.

Depending on what an investigation reveals, potentially responsible parties may include a truck driver, trucking company, vehicle owner, maintenance provider, cargo company, contractor, manufacturer, or another driver.

Truck Driver and Trucking Company Negligence

Investigators may examine whether factors such as speeding, distraction, fatigue, unsafe lane changes, following distance, impairment, or violations of applicable safety requirements contributed to a collision.

The trucking company's conduct may also need to be examined. Hiring and training practices, driver supervision, vehicle maintenance, scheduling practices, and company safety policies can all become relevant depending on the circumstances.

In a multi-vehicle 18-wheeler crash, there may also be more than one contributing factor. A thorough investigation should follow the evidence rather than assume responsibility based simply on which vehicles were involved.

When a Dallas Truck Accident Causes Catastrophic Injuries

The consequences of a serious truck crash can extend far beyond the initial emergency room visit.

Survivors may face surgeries, rehabilitation, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, permanent disabilities, lost income, and years of medical treatment. Families can suddenly find themselves balancing medical decisions, caregiving responsibilities, insurance issues, work, and uncertainty about what comes next.

A catastrophic injury claim should therefore consider more than the medical bills that have already arrived. Future treatment, lost earning capacity, long-term care needs, and the ways an injury has changed someone's life can all be important.

Aldous Law represents people and families whose lives have been changed by serious truck accidents. We prepare serious cases with the expectation that meaningful accountability may ultimately require taking a case to trial.

When an 18-Wheeler Accident Results in a Death

When a family loses someone in a crash, legal questions understandably may not be the first thing on their minds. Grief comes first.

But families may eventually have questions about why their loved one died, whether the collision could have been prevented, and whether another person's or company's actions contributed to the loss.

Under Texas law, certain family members may be able to pursue a wrongful death claim when a death results from another party's wrongful or negligent conduct. Whether a claim exists depends on the circumstances and evidence surrounding the crash.

No legal result can replace someone who has died. For Aldous Law, representing a grieving family means working to uncover what happened, making sure their story is heard, and pursuing accountability when the evidence shows that a preventable act caused their loss.
