Taking care of our clients while working to make Texas law better for people is what I value most.

Paula Sweeney brings decades of trial experience and a deep commitment to fairness, accountability, and client advocacy.
“It’s wonderful to be working with Charla, Eleanor, Caleb and the team. We share the same values about taking care of our clients and making Texas law better for people, and I’m looking forward to trying some cases with these amazingly talented lawyers.”
Paula is inspired by standing up for people when they are facing injustice and powerful opposition. Fairness is a core value that drives her work, and she is especially motivated by helping individuals during the most difficult moments of their lives. She is known for pushing back against systems and opponents that attempt to shift blame, excuse wrongdoing, or compound harm, and for being unafraid to “just say no” when bullies rely on pressure instead of the law.
She finds particular meaning in representing clients who feel unheard or overwhelmed, and she values the moment when clients realize someone is truly fighting for them. Paula also appreciates the professionalism of many lawyers practicing in this area of law and takes pride in mastering every detail of it - knowledge that gives her confidence and clarity in the courtroom.
Paula has a special passion for nursing malpractice cases, which she views as fundamentally rooted in systems failures - whether caused by understaffing, inadequate training, economic pressures, or faulty equipment. For her, addressing these systemic issues is deeply rewarding because it not only helps the individual client, but also works toward preventing harm to countless others in the future.
Paula’s legal career spans more than four decades, during which she has built a reputation as a skilled trial lawyer and respected leader within the plaintiffs’ bar. She has practiced with some of Texas’s most prominent firms and has tried complex, high-stakes cases involving catastrophic injury and professional negligence.
Before joining Aldous Law as Of Counsel in 2026, Paula served as Partner and Of Counsel at Slack Davis Sanger for more than a decade, following earlier partnerships at Howie & Sweeney, L.L.P. and Misko, Howie & Sweeney, L.L.P. She began her legal career at the Law Offices of Windle Turley, where she developed the foundation for a lifetime of advocacy on behalf of injured clients.
Throughout her career, Paula has been deeply involved in trial lawyer organizations at both the state and national levels, serving in numerous leadership roles and contributing to the development of Texas trial practice and continuing legal education.

Sarah followed every step she thought was right, but the seat belt’s flawed design changed her life forever. A crash left her quadriplegic after the shoulder strap caught her neck. Our investigation proved that most people made the same mistake, and a jury held Honda accountable.
