Baker v. Children’s Medical Center

Aldous Law

Failed Diagnosis of Injured Child Resulting in Paralysis

Little Dru Baker broke her back in a car accident with her mother and sister in 2006 near the Texas-Oklahoma border. She was airlifted to the closest pediatric Level I trauma center—Children’s Medical Center in Dallas.

The four year-old’s injuries were severe and she was carefully examined. Tests were conducted and CT scans were taken. But the radiology resident misread what were obvious factures in at least two vertebrae. So did the trauma and ER doctors.

Because of that, she was improperly handled, constantly moved about, transferred for inappropriate scans, and not given the care she needed to protect the delicate tissues of her spinal cord.

Tough Representation from Our Dallas Medical Malpractice Lawyers

Signs of fracture were finally noted the morning after she entered the hospital. Astonishingly, even then, the hospital team failed to take the precautions that are the standard of care for someone with spinal injury.

Dru arrived at the hospital able to move her legs. When she left, she was unable to walk. She will forever need a wheelchair.

The hospital and doctors involved settled the case with the family before trial. Our team of Dallas trial attorneys at Aldous Law was proud to stand with the family, offering our support and our dedicated representation.
