Medical Malpractice
Stuart Sickler was just 19-years old when he underwent a bilateral heart valve replacement. Several weeks later, one of the heart valves started to leak (a life-threatening condition). Stuart’s parents took him to the emergency room for evaluation. Unfortunately, the emergency room physician and Stuart’s heart surgeon both agreed he should travel more than 2 hours back to the surgeon’s office for treatment. Stuart ended up bleeding out in the back of his mother’s car. Although EMS was summoned and they transported Stuart to the nearest hospital, it was too late to save Stuart.
Once the lawyers at Aldous Law heard the facts of Stuart’s tragic passing, they knew it was a case they had to take. Although the case was capped by Texas tort reform laws, Aldous Law believes no one should have to lose a child this way. They filed the case and were able to get Stuart’s parents the answers they sought. The healthcare providers involved in the case learned a very valuable lesson and will think twice before discharging a patient with a bleed in their chest. After the case settled, the Aldous Law team was thrilled to be presented with some of Stuart’s Eagle Scout’s badges and pins – in appreciation from his grateful family.
